"Giving Me Away"
Listen or purchase HERE When I think about all the things you’ve done for me I wonder how I ever got to be so lucky
To have a dad like you Who loves me like you do When I told you that all I wanna do is sing You did everything to help me live my dreams I owe it all to you There’s nothing you wouldn’t do You’re my hero
My biggest fan
The greatest man CHORUS
Don’t let go of me
As you’re giving me away There’s no song that could ever be long enough
There’s no thank you card That could show how generous You’ve been to us You’ll always have all my love
You’re my hero
My biggest fan
The greatest man CHORUS
Don’t let go of me
As you’re giving me away
So enjoy the ride as we glide across the dance floor In this moment made for me and you I might cry a little on your shoulder
‘Cause that’s what daughters with dads like you would do
CHORUS
Don’t let go of me
As you’re giving me away
Written by Misha Williams & Britney Monroe © 2013 by Velvet Vine Publishing (BMI) BEHIND THE SONG: This is probably one of the most re-written songs I've ever written. This was the song my dad and I danced to at my wedding. How do you sum up the best dad ever in 3-4 minutes? I started over about 5 or 6 times on this song because I just had to get it right. If you've been lucky enough to have a dad as amazing as mine, you might understand why this was so hard for me to write. My friend Britney & I spent several writing sessions just trying to figure out the best angle and what I really wanted to say, and in the end I had to just take my time with it and work on it over the course of a few months. I ended up using bits and pieces from one of our sessions & various versions of rewrites, keeping only the parts that really moved me. This song was also included on a CD of original songs that was the favor for the guests at our wedding, and I made my dad an original painting of a father and daughter dancing with the lyrics written around it that I gave to him at our rehearsal dinner (picture above). Thank God I played it for him before the wedding, because I would have been a mess if he had heard it for the first time when we had our father-daughter dance. That moment at our wedding was one I will always cherish.
